I want an Apple

April 8, 2006

My first computing experience was on a mac and I really love them.

My current computer needs an upgrade but I am thinking of just getting a nice big LCD monitor and buying an apple notebook next year (MacBook Pro ?). This way I can connect it to the monitor and a keyboard/ mouse at home and easily take it away with me. I think I’ll start following prices of apple notebooks more closely! And Mac OS X is such a nice OS! (largely due to the powerful darwin backend).

Apple’s recent release of Boot Camp and the fact the new Apples now run an Intel processor means you can duel boot with Windows XP. Though I think I’d rather dual boot a Linux distro and use WINE when required.

I thought these quotes form the Boot Camp page were quite clever/funny:

“Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries.”

“Windows running on a Mac is like Windows running on a PC. That means it’ll be subject to the same attacks that plague the Windows world. So be sure to keep it updated with the latest Microsoft Windows security fixes. “

Hopefuly my next upgrade will be an Apple!
